Sorry, NFL teams. Looks like you might have to play against Tom Brady for longer than initially thought. There is no doubt that Brady is the greatest quarterback, and maybe the greatest football player of all time, and I now admit that there is a solid argument for him being one of the greatest athletes of all time as well.
But it’s no secret and no surprise that Brady is getting up in years, especially for a professional football player. He is currently 44 years old and still going strong, which is impressive, but the question everyone is asking seems to be, “Can Tom Brady play until 50?”
We finally got an answer to that question earlier today. The Buccaneers posted a video to their YouTube channel today featuring Brady and Rob Gronkowski, in which they answered the Internet’s most asked questions about them. Clad in big, reflective sunglasses and a white bucket hat, the GOAT had a surprisingly honest answer when he was asked the hot question.
“Seems to be a really hot question lately,” Brady chuckled, before answering the question seriously. “I don’t find it so difficult,” He said, “And plus living in Florida, it’s kind of a retiree state. I feel like I can just play and glide into retirement. I think I can, I think it’s a yes.”
Immediately upon hearing Brady’s answer, Gronkowski joked, “I think it’s ‘Will Gisele let Tom play until 50?’” Both teammates laughed heartily, and Brady said, “That is a way better question. Why would they not Google that?” He initially joked that his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, would not let him play until 50, but then he stated that she would let him do whatever makes him happy.
Judging from this video and his answers, it seems like Brady isn’t ready to quit just yet. He’s said in the past that he would stop at 45, but at the age of 44, he still seems hungry for more. This certainly shouldn’t be surprising news for most NFL fans, but it definitely is big news.
Tom Brady has been playing NFL football for longer than I’ve been alive. I’ve always held this subconscious thought that he would always be playing football. In reality, his years of dominating the NFL are coming to a close, and the only question is when will he officially retire?
I know that a lot of people don’t like Brady, but I personally want to see him be as good as he can be for as long as he can. The fact that this man is 44 years old, still going strong, and still crushing his opponents is insanely impressive. I want to see Tom Brady play until 50!
How cool would that be?! It would certainly be very on-brand for Brady as well, if anyone were to play in the NFL at 50, it would be him.
We can talk about this until we’re out breath and blue in the face, but at the end of the day, it boils down to this: Tom Brady’s gonna do what Tom Brady’s gonna do.
